Oriented Strand Board

ORIENTED STRAND BOARD

Waferboard was developed in the seventies, when there was a need for a wood product that would perform like plywood but be made from more readily available raw materials. It was the first panel product that effectively used most of the tree's fibers.

Today, the manufacturing of waferboard has been further engineered to create a new building material called oriented strand board (OSB). It's widely used in a variety of interior and exterior projects, such as roof and wall sheathing, subflooring, shelving, garden shed siding and utility panelling. In many applications, OSB outperforms plywood yet is economical in price.

Home Building Centres carry OSB from mills approved by the Structural Panel Association of North America. OSB panels are easy to cut and can be finished with any number of fine coatings available at your local Home Building Centre.

Available in 4' x 8' panels in 1/4", 3/8", 7/16", 5/8", 5/8" T&G, and 3/4" thicknesses. (Note, some thicknesses available only in Western Canada).

Pine Lumber

Pine lumber has long been known for its workability and pleasing appearance. Canadian pioneers often crafted furniture, toys, floors and window frames from this species of soft wood which grew so abundantly in our northern climate. At Home Building Centres, we pride ourselves on carrying top-quality pine and we stock several different grades to fit your project needs. Whether you're crafting your own family heirloom or building a simple shelving unit, pine lumber from Home Building Centres is easily worked and finishes beautifully with either paint or stain.

Cedar Lumber

Cedar lumber has long been known to have natural decay/rot resistance. It is not uncommon for a cedar shingled roof to last up to 50 years. This eye-pleasing species, which grows in Western Canada, has long been a favourite of quality deck and fence builders. Fresh-cut cedar lumber has a pleasing, warm reddish tone that can be enhanced or preserved with many of the quality stains that Home Building Centres carry. Left natural, it will mellow to a lovely silver grey colour.

Home Building Centres deal with many of Canada's top cedar suppliers who are known for supplying high quality grades. From traditional cedar decking widths of 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 to the new 5/4" radius edged products, We can help you create a backyard masterpiece that will be the envy of the neighbourhood.

Pressure-Treated Lumber

The old saying that "all things are not created equal" certainly applies to pressure-treated wood! At Home Building Centres, we carefully select our suppliers to ensure that we only deal with those treaters who are known for their quality and adherence to strict environmental practices.  Wolmanized lumber from Hickson Licensees and Stormwood from Timber Specialties Licensees are brands that guarantee that the wood you receive is pressure-treated to exacting standards.

Our treaters select for grade and appearance prior to treating to ensure that the product you get is the very best. Pressure-treating lumber ensures that the lumber you buy from Home Building Centres will stand up to the elements and be decay and insect-resistant for years to come. Whether you want to build a backyard entertainment area or just edge your flowerbeds and lawns, pressure-treated wood from Home Building Centres will meet your needs. Our Deck and Fence Experts can help you design your project and will show you why our 5/4 decking lumber or the more traditional 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 is the choice of quality Canadian builders from coast to coast.
